About HIV Research: 30 years

Hi,
I am going to start this blog with a paper about HIV Research, the key moments of HIV Research

The paper is:

Past, present and future: 30 years of HIV research
From Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Anna Laura Ross and Jean-François Delfraissy
(Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2008)
Nat Rev Microbiol. 2013 Dec;11(12):877-83. doi: 10.1038/nrmicro3132.
Abstract | This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the study
that first reported the isolation of HIV1. In this Timeline article, we provide a
historical perspective of some of the major milestones in HIV science, highlighting
how translational research has affected treatment and prevention of HIV. Finally,
we discuss some of the current research directions and the scientific challenges
ahead, in particular in the search for a cure for HIV.

Here I present the key moments described in the paper:

Finally, I am going to add 2 key moments from 2019:

2019: London Patient, the second patient appears to have been cure of HIV infection

2020: Another HIV vaccine fails a trial, this vaccine knows as HVTN 702 (nicknamed Uhambo), showed it was not working.

HIV/AIDS is still a health crisis in the world:
- No Vaccine yet
- The antiretroviral therapy is efficient but it is required for life, ART doesn't eradicate HIV
- HIV hides in reservoirs, that reservoirs are not sensitive to ART.

As scientists, we still have a big challenge to continue with HIV research.
